Bury’s market licence dates back to 1444, and Sir Robert Peel, the prime minister who founded the modern police, was born in the town. Cotton became its main industry in the early 1800s alongside paper-making, and terraced houses spread from the centre into districts such as Freetown, Fishpool and Pimhole. There are also late Georgian brick and stone terraces on Manchester Road and Silver Street, and 18th-century weavers’ cottages in Elton, so staircases across the borough vary widely.

Stairlifts Along the Irwell Valley
Bury lies on the western edge of the Pennines, split north to south by the River Irwell, which is joined by the River Roch near Blackford Bridge. Further up the valley, homes in Ramsbottom and Tottington sit on sloping streets where steps outside can be as much of a challenge as stairs inside, so we can supply outdoor stairlifts as well as indoor models. From streets near Bury Market and the East Lancashire Railway to Prestwich and Whitefield, our surveyor will look at the whole route through your home.
Stairlift Questions Answered for Bury Residents
Everything you need to know about buying, fitting and maintaining a stairlift in Bury.
How much does a stairlift cost in Bury?

Do you cover Prestwich, Whitefield and Ramsbottom?
Yes. We cover the whole borough, including Prestwich, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Unsworth and Elton.
How quickly can you install a stairlift in Bury?
We install most straight stairlifts within 24 to 48 hours of your free survey, often the same day. Curved stairlifts require a custom-manufactured rail, typically taking two to four weeks from order to installation.
Can you fit a stairlift in an old weavers' cottage?
Often, yes. Older cottages can have narrow or winding stairs, and a curved stairlift can be built to follow them. Our surveyor will measure and explain the options.
Do reconditioned stairlifts come with a warranty?
Yes. Every reconditioned stairlift is fully stripped, deep-cleaned, refurbished and safety-tested. Each comes with a 2-year parts and labour warranty.
Can I get a Disabled Facilities Grant in Bury?
Disabled Facilities Grants in Bury are handled by Bury Council and can help eligible residents with the cost of a stairlift. We can provide the written quote the council asks for.
