Stairlift Batteries: Charging Faults and Replacements
Stairlift Beeping or Losing Power?
Most modern stairlifts run on rechargeable batteries, which charge whenever the lift is parked at a charge point. Over time the batteries wear and hold less charge.
We fix charging faults and replace batteries on all makes of stairlift across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Cumbria. Call us on 07534 654944.
Before the batteries are blamed, check the simple causes:
The lift is not parked exactly on its charge point at the top or bottom of the stairs
The charger is unplugged or switched off at the wall
The plug fuse has blown or a circuit breaker has tripped
The charging contacts are dirty or something is blocking them
Park the lift on its charge point and leave it to charge. If it still beeps, or the batteries run down quickly, they may need replacing.
Stairlift Battery Replacement
Stairlift batteries usually last a few years, depending on how much the lift is used and how well it is kept charged. Most stairlifts use a pair of batteries, which are replaced together.
We replace batteries in all makes of stairlift and test the lift afterwards. We recommend an engineer fits new batteries, because they sit inside the carriage and the charging needs checking once they are in.
Most battery-powered stairlifts keep working for a number of trips in a power cut, because they run from their batteries rather than the mains. It is one more reason to keep the batteries in good condition, and a regular service checks them for you.

Stairlift Battery Questions
Common questions about stairlift batteries and charging.
How long do stairlift batteries last?
Usually a few years, depending on how much the lift is used and how well it is kept charged. A service checks how well they hold their charge.
Why does my stairlift keep beeping?
Usually because it is not charging. Check it is parked on its charge point and the charger is switched on at the wall. If it still beeps, the batteries or charger may need attention.
Can I change stairlift batteries myself?
We recommend an engineer does it. The batteries sit inside the carriage, and the lift and its charging need testing afterwards.
Do you replace batteries on all makes?
Yes, including Stannah, Acorn, Brooks, Handicare, Platinum, Bruno and Access BDD.
Will my stairlift work in a power cut?
Most battery-powered stairlifts keep working for a number of trips, as long as the batteries are charged and in good condition.
How do I know if it is the batteries or the charger?
Our engineer tests both and tells you which needs attention before replacing anything.
