Windermere town grew up around the railway station and hotel that opened in 1847; before then the hamlet was known as Birthwaite. Bowness grew from a small fishing village into a Victorian resort and the centre of boat building on the lake. Both are built mainly of local Lakeland stone and slate, with large Victorian villas, Victorian and Edwardian buildings in the centres and later 19th-century streets, many on sloping sites with multi-storey layouts. Every home here deserves a careful survey.

Stairlifts for Lakeland Homes on Sloping Sites
Windermere town sits about half a mile east of England’s largest natural lake, while Bowness lies directly on the shore within the Lake District National Park. Many homes are built into the slope, with steps outside and long or turning staircases inside. From Bowness Bay and St Martin’s Church to the streets around the station, our surveyor will measure every set of steps and recommend indoor or outdoor stairlifts to suit.
